April 30th Data Update

This post updates COVID-19 confirmed case data for the DC Metropolitan area as of April 30th 2021The total confirmed cases in the DC area rose by 625 t411,405 from the previous total of 410,780. Fatalities rose by 7 to 6,892 from the previous total of 6,885.

  1. Good to see confirmed cases have plateaued at a low level, but somewhat disturbing they continue despite the increase in vaccinations.

    1. Not sure I entirely agree. First of all, the second half of April saw modest downward movement in daily new cases, down from the upper-hundreds (e.g. 700-1,000) to the mid-hundreds (400-700) by the end of the month. The 1 May datum suggests this trend will continue into the month.

      Secondly, I'm not sure when we'll actually see the beginning of vaccination effects - you may note that the downward trend from the Winter 2020/2021 began well before mass vaccinations took effect, so it could very well be the case that we're observing still secular declines in cases, which would have little (or nothing) to do with vaccinations.
