This post updates COVID-19 confirmed case data for the DC Metropolitan area as of May 27th 2 021 .  The total confirmed cases in the DC area rose by 229 t o  419,007   from  the previous total of 418,778 . Fatalities rose by 157 to  7,200   from  the previous total of 7,043 . It is worth noting that the apparent spike in fatalities is driven overwhelmingly by Maryland's increase of 155 fatalities (for context, the Maryland jurisdictions had been averaging 2 new fatalities per day since mid-May 2021). The sharp rise from Maryland is due to an upward statistical revision by Maryland health authorities of COVID-19 fatalities covering "past year", which I presume to mean the beginning of the pandemic. While I will report the numbers as given, I will account for this statistic revision when doing end-of-month summary statistics.
