March 23rd Data Update

This post updates COVID-19 confirmed case data for the DC Metropolitan area as of March 23rd 2021The total confirmed cases in the DC area rose by 644 t379,907 from the previous total of 379,263. Fatalities rose by 6 to 6,572 from the previous total of 6,566.

  1. New cases seem to have plateaued, which means the cumulative total is still rising but slowly. On the other hand, the cumulative total for fatalities is starting to level off.

    1. I would be inclined to agree. If you recall, the summer of 2020 saw daily new case counts in the 400-600 range on any given day. I suspect we are currently in a similar pattern, although with a higher baseline, perhaps 600-800 instead.

      The decline in deaths is expected with the decrease in new cases. During the summer of 2020 there were several days with zero deaths recorded, and I suspect we may see some in the coming weeks as well (assuming that no third wave emerges).
